UNDP in Democratic Republic of Congo

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which has had a presence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since 1976, works toward sustainable human development. The two pillars of the UNPD programme of 2008-2012 in the DRC have been the promotion of good governance, and poverty reduction (including support for the electoral system, judicial and security reform, combatting corruption, implementing decentralisation, combatting deforestation and climate change, and post-conflict planning and stabilization). In the session held in January 2013, the UNPD Board of Directors endorsed the country’s programme for the period 2013-2017. Its three principal points are:

  • Consolidation of peace and reinforcement of democracy
  • Planning for development and for inclusive growth
  • Climate change and managing natural resources
