    The President of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today welcomed the appointment of Achim Steiner as the Organization’s new Administrator. Mr Steiner’s nomination for UNDP Administrator was forwarded by Secretary-General António Guterres to the General Assembly, which today confirmed him as the Administrator of UNDP for a term of four years.

  • Civilian and military magistrates tackling international crimes Mar 27, 2017

    Civilian and military magistrates in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are now equipped to prosecute and punish international crimes committed on national territory. Around thirty civilian and military magistrates from South-Kivu have just updated their knowledge of war crimes, victim protection measures and methods for dealing with witnesses to international crimes. This took place during a skills-building workshop held in Bukavu from 20-23 February 2017.

    On Thursday 23 March 2017, His Excellency Mr Hiroshi Karube, Japan’s Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, took part in a joint review by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Japan, as well as the presentation of 900 Panasonic solar lantern kits, a gift from the Japanese company to the Democratic Republic of Congo through the UNDP.

    To combat the degradation of forests in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, several new programmes are to be initiated, three of them developed by the UNDP. The DRC ministries in charge of finance, the environment and the conservation of nature, as well as the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI) were present this Thursday, 8th April, to witness the approval given by the steering committee of FONAREDD (the National REDD+ Fund) to the agreement to implement these forest protection and preservation programmes

  • Socio-economic reintegration projects : when agents in the field innovate ! Jan 3, 2017

    We are on the Island of Idjwi, where 250 beneficiaries are engaged in labour-intensive work which will last 2 months. The work involves restoring the soil’s fertility over large areas of rolling farmland and building agricultural terraces, designed to withstand erosion. 250 men and women are taking part in this programme of Socio-economic reintegration led by the Centre of Rural Promotion (CRP) and supported by the UNDP thanks to financing from Japan equalling $1,250,000.

  • “Art against Poverty in the DRC” Competition Holds Award Ceremony Dec 11, 2016

    Students Jackson TSHISEKEDI, Dieudonné NGABARO, Odeb LITOFO and Paulvi NGIMBI received awards in recognition of the quality of their work and the strength of the messages communicated through their artistic endeavours. The award ceremony was followed by the opening of an exhibition displaying the 30 works selected at the end of the competition.

  • Contextualizing the Sustainable Development Goals: The DRC Establishes Its Priorities and Targets Dec 9, 2016

    The Democratic Republic of the Congo has just completed its first national report which clearly establishes its targets and indicators prioritized with respect to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Deputy Prime Minister in Charge of the Postal Service and Telecommunications, Thomas Luhaka officially launched this national report contextualizing and prioritizing the SDGs in the DRC on Friday, 18 November in the presence of Ministers, Ambassadors, and delegates from the private sector and civil society
