Funded to the tune of $18 million for a five year period by the Canadian government, the Program to Combat Impunity, Support Victims of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and Empowerment of Women in the East of the DRC took stock of its four years of life. This was an opportunity to review the results achieved during 2016 as well as to validate the Program's annual work plan for 2017.

Annual Programme Review: Encouraging Results Reported

On Tuesday, 22 November 2016, the Congolese government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and UNDP undertook a review of the Country Programme Action Plan. This annual review is a mandatory consultation process between the government and its technical and financial partners, with the goal of measuring the progress and results in the area of sustainable human development.

In order to improve living conditions in both rural areas and towns, several micro-finance institutions supported by UNDP and UNCDF offer an original solution to the poorest members of society so that they can have access to credit. This includes the creation of solidarity groups to take out loans collectively, guaranteed by joint surety. These initiatives take place within the framework of the Support Programme for the Microfinance Sector (PASMIF) supported by Belgium and Sweden.
